Mama’s Fish

We have some favorite recipes at our home that I’ll be sharing over time. The first one is fish. My dad loves to fish and we fully appreciate his donations! Typically, it’s walleye and perch. This is my favorite way of making fish–learned from my mother. I’m not sure there are any better recipes than from my mother. Seriously, she is an amazing cook. One of the best parts is that it only takes approximately 20 minutes from start to finish, so it’s quick. Now, I did NOT say this is the most healthful way of preparing fish, I said it was the best TASTING!! As any good cook, there is a lot of “by guessing and by goshing” that goes into the measurements of ingredients. And, it depends on how much fish you have, so here goes:

Mama’s Fish

walleye or perch work best

1 c. (more or less) milk

1 c. flour

1 egg–beaten

1 c. crushed saltine crackers

1/2 c. vegetable oil

Bread fish, start by dipping into milk, then coating in flour, then dipping into the beaten egg, then finishing by coating in the saltines. (I just line up the ingredients and go down the row.) Heat your oil in a pan and cook the fish in the oil until done. It gets golden brown on each side and flaky. Here’s a picture of what it will look like. You can add lemon or tarter sauce to your liking. YUM!!
